Essential duties and responsibilities: • Assist in installation of septic systems • Remove trees and debris • Assist construction managers • Install sewer, water, and storm drain pipes • Operate laser guidance equipment to place pipes • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavation, and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes • Operate concrete pavement breakers, jackhammers, earth tampers, concrete, mortar, and plaster mixers • Install traffic control devices.     C & J Excavating Inc. is hiring an EXPERIENCED Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a variety of contractor-owned equipment used in construction, maintenance, and repair activities and perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of grading, utility systems, roads, street, and storm drainage systems. Essential duties and responsibilities: • Safely and effectively operate heavy construction equipment on a grading or utility construction site. • Operate construction or power equipment, such as but not limited to hydraulic excavator, backhoe, bulldozer, roller, road grader, front-end loader, and skid steers. • Operates jackhammer and other small equipment and power tools. • Ability to check grades, and accurately layout structures for projects. • Must be familiar with these areas of safety: shoring, slope cut, equipment, temporary steel sheet placements on the road, etc. • Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment daily. • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. • Troubleshoot unexpected conditions and create corrective plans to remedy the situation. • Must be able to meet schedule and budget requirements assigned to the job. • May be required to work unexpected overtime. • All other duties as assigned. Requirements: • 5+ years of recent experience working as a Heavy Equipment Operator • Proven safe, experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and other heavy equipment found on a construction site. • Ability to read and interpret plans/blueprints to identify grades, slopes, structures, pipes, elevation. • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. An active Washington State CDL is preferred. • Physically able to dig, help with excavation, and other labor as needed. • Able to pass drug and background checks and maintain a clean driving record. • Verifiable references • Reliable transportation and phone • MUST BE RELIABLE and show up to work when scheduled.
